Mummy’s Wish

February 23rd, 2018

Recipients of a $2,500 2017 Community Grant earlier this year, Mummy’s Wish operates with the important mission to support Australian families, whilst Mum is receiving treatment for cancer.
At just 14 weeks into her pregnancy with daughter Arielle, Founder Bernadette Richardson was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. That’s where the journey started.

Bernadette underwent chemotherapy and gave birth to a healthy baby at 33 weeks, and continued chemotherapy treatments and after 8 months of treatment, was finally told that she was cancer free. Unfortunately just 6 weeks later, she relapsed with a new, very aggressive tumour where initial attempts at chemo failed. Finally, 2 years after her initial diagnosis, Bernadette was in remission.

After her 2 year battle with cancer, she had learned a lot on her journey and knew that many women in her situation were not so fortunate. Since its formation, Mummy’s Wish has worked hard to provide support to Australian families and since 2007 has touched over 2000 families. Connecting with Mums on diagnosis, through the full treatment, the work that they do allows Mums  undergoing treatment to cope with their illness and meet the physical and emotional needs of a young family.
