The Beatles toured Australia 1964 and a generational revolution was underway which would turn the music industry upside down. Radio formats changed to cater for the resultant explosion of Pop music. At the same time, new television shows were catering for the demand to see the new local and international “pop stars”. Guitar based bands were forming everywhere and needing venues to play the R&B/blues and pop hits of the day.
Cloudland based dance promoter, Ivan Dayman, a visionary of the times, created Sunshine Records, Sunshine Tours and established dance venues across the nation to satisfy the demand for the new Australian stars. Normie Rowe, Tony Worsley and Ross D Wyllie were among Ivan’s first signings and in the hands of Producer, Pat Aulton, an extra-ordinary stream of hits and tours followed; accompanied by unprecedented hysteria and chaos.
Now, Normie, Australia’s first pop superstar, joined by his lifetime friends and Sunshine label mates, Tony Worsley and Ross D Wyllie bring you their contributions to the soundtrack of Australia’s first independent hit factory – Sunshine Records and a million teenager’s dreams. There are too many hits to mention here and a lot of fun to be had at the Kedron-Wavell Services Club on Saturday June 25th.
