Fun for Ronald McDonald Herston House Play Room

October 17th, 2014

Thanks to a recent grant from Kedron-Wavell Services Club, the Ronald McDonald House at Herston has been able to purchase much needed activities for their new play room.RonaldMcDonald_DSC00037_website

There is much more than accommodation that goes into making a ‘home away from home’, particularly when some families need to stay at the House for up to 18 months.  The new play room will be a great space for the facilitation of arts and crafts activities.

Community Officer Julie Mullen said ‘We are proud of what we offer at the Ronald McDonald House in terms of comfortable beds, ensuites, shared kitchens and our close proximity to the hospital, but we are aware there is potential to better support children who are our guests’.  ‘By funding these activities, Kedron-Wavell Services Club is contributing to the happiness and well-being of every child who stays at the Ronald McDonald House’.

And it’s not just the patients who will benefit.  Having a seriously ill child in the family also impacts enormously on sibling.  All kids deserve to just be kids!

Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland provides accommodation for regional and rural families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.  Without this program, many families would find themselves suddenly facing the emotional and financial stress of having to find suitable accommodation, all while coming to terms with their son or daughter’s diagnosis and treatment.
